Foundation Doctor's 2024 Guide to Trent
Updated for 2024 Applicants
Trent Foundation School is part of Health Education England East Midlands, and covers the areas of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and the majority of Lincolnshire. All of the placements are 2-year linked programmes, giving you the stability of knowing where you will be living and working for the two years. The programmes are organised geographically so that you’ll be based either in the east or west of the deanery for the duration of your training, which ensures that your commute will never be too long and provides the benefit of not needing to move home. Most programmes include one year in a larger city-based teaching hospital, and the other year in a smaller DGH, which provides a varied clinical experience.
Being situated in the middle of the country means that Trent is in easy reach of all major UK cities. The university cities of Nottingham, Derby and Lincoln have a good mix of night-life and culture, and for those who love the outdoors, the Peak District, Sherwood Forest and the Lincolnshire coastline are all nearby.

Hospitals, Rotation Scores, CQC Ratings
In the chart below you'll find a list of hospitals attached to the Trent Foundation School, and an average of their Rotation Scores from Messly’s Training Navigator. Each rotation is given a score out of 100, which is based on a weighted average of ratings given by Foundation Trainees in the 2023 GMC NTS. The national average Rotation Score is 57 for reference.
Colours correspond to the latest CQC rating of that hospital.
Disclaimer: Please note that hospitals are unscored when there are insufficient responses by Foundation Trainees to the GMC’s NTS survey.
